Faculty give grades to provide rewards, punishments, and reflections of academic performance students. However, there are plainly other motivations at work as well. Average in American colleges universities have been rising since the 1960s. Most agree that significant grade inflation United States began 1960s due Vietnam War, stabilized 1970s. Inflating with the QCD Axion

We investigate using the potential for the QCD axion to inflate. In particular, for axion models with a softly broken ZN symmetry, the axion potential has a series of N local minima and may be modeled by a tilted cosine. Chain inflation results along this tilted cosine: a series of tunneling events takes place as the field tunnels its way from an initial minimum near the top of the potential to...

Inflating the Cube Without Stretching

Here by isometric we mean that the geodesic distance between pairs of points on the non-convex polyhedron is always equal to the geodesic distance between of the corresponding pairs of points on a cube. Alternatively, it means that two surfaces can be triangulated in such a way that they now consist of congruent triangles which are glued according to the same combinatorial rules. For example, i...

Monographing in the 1980s

ALISO 11(2), 1985, pp. 231-242 The production of taxonomic monographs is discussed in light of the modem tools that are available for their preparation. These should be a balance between the traditional aspects that must still be employed such as the nomenclatural framework and th...
